Your first destination on this itinerary is Jelsa on the northern coast of Hvar. The afternoon maestral will quickly get your through the straits of Splitska vrata, and once you reach the windy Hvar channel put up the spinnaker in order to reach Jelsa. It's 28 miles to Jelsa so you will most likely sail the last two hours at night (depending on when you manage to leave Split). If you do not fancy entering the harbor of this lovely town at night, you can anchor off the islet of Zecevo or at the entrance to the Bay of Vrboska off the promontory of Glavica.
In Jelsa, you can tie up along the seafront at the end of the south bank in the harbor (depth 3 meters) or outside the harbormaster's building in the middle of the opposite side, where there is anchoring room for a few boats (depth 2.5 meters). Here you will be well protected from the bora - the only wind you should be wary of in Jelsa. If the bora picks up, you might want to head for the picturesque - and miniature replica of Venice - Vrboska. Here there is an ACI marina, and it is also possible to tie up along the quayside next to the port light, some distance from the marina towards the end of the bay (along this 120-meter stretch, depths vary from 2.5 to 3 meters).
