Croatia can still be a budget travellers destination when compared to most of Europe, but it is no longer the incredible bargain that it was just a few years ago. Budget accommodation is in short supply, but transportation and food excellent bargains.
Staying in private accommodations or hostels, you can travel around Croatia on 50 Euro per day or even less if you camp. If you want to travel in comfort you have to double that amount or triple (even quadruple) it if you want to be luxurious regarding accommodation and food. Budget lodging normally costs from 15 to 20 Euro, mid-range lodging is from 20 to 50 Euro and luxurious accommodation starts from 50 upwards.
If you are chartering a boat in Croatia, depending on the type of boat and the size of your crew, your mid-range holiday with regular dining out and one very luxurious meal will probably cost between 60 to 150 Euro per person per day, including the cost of the boat and food but excluding other transportation costs.
You can enjoy a budget meal for 5 to 10 Euro per person, a mid-range meal from 10 to 25 and a high-end one from 25 Euro upwards. Being a sailor, you have a wonderful opportunity to experience great family-run restaurants in numerous bays on the Croatian islands; they are normally priced at mid-range and offer extremely fresh foods.
If you are served well at a restaurant, you should at least round up the bill, and bear in mind that satisfied locals normally try to leave a 5 to 10 percent tip. A service charge is rarely added to the bill automatically. Bar bills and taxi fares should also be rounded up.
